I have a background in organic/synthetic chemistry with a focus on the design and synthesis of antimicrobial drugs. In the Lewis lab, I have been working on developing a platform for the discovery of natural products against antibiotic-tolerant (persister) bacteria. I am also exploring environmental microorganisms like bacteria (e.g., Acidobacteria, Nocardia, Pseudoalteromonas species) and fungi as potential sources of antimicrobial compounds. Outside the lab, I like to be in nature. I love cooking.
My prior research at the Luk Lab at Syracuse University involved studying antimicrobial molecules active against the Gram-negative bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa. We developed a new class of synthetic compounds that can eradicate drug tolerance and suppress resistance by inhibiting horizontal gene transfer in P. aeruginosa.
